John Carlini is a graduate of Boston’s, Berklee College of Music, and the U. S. Navy School of Music. While serving in the Navy, he toured with the "Navy Show Band".

John replaced guitarist, Jerry Garcia, in the Great American Music Band and toured with vocalist, Maria Muldaur. Afterwards, he became the music director/arranger for the original David Grisman Quintet featuring guitarist, Tony Rice.

He orchestrated David Grisman's score for the DeLaurentiis film, "King of the Gypsies", featuring jazz violin legend, Stephane Grappelli.

John was guitarist on the Grammy-nominated David Grisman Quintet recording, "Dawg ’90". The group performed at Carnegie Hall.

John was the music director of the Ice Capades, touring for 8 seasons with Dorothy Hamill and Scott Hamilton.

After coming off the road, John earned a Drama Desk nomination for his orchestrations in the off-Broadway hit, "Song of Singapore", featuring Tony-winner, Donna Murphy.

Guitar Player magazine called John "…a wily, mainstream jazz veteran with an unerring feel for all idioms."

New Chord-Solo Arrangements!

Click here to see John's new "Chord-Solo" guitar arrangements of Great American Standards and

Christmas and Holiday favorites.

Sheet music is in both standard notation and tab, and even includes a 30 second

audio so you can listen before you decide whether to purchase.

These arrangements are true to the melody and do not contain melodic embellishment or "licks",

so that you can learn the melody as the composer intended.

It is the vertical chordal voicings that make them unique.

There will be lots more to come!

Drop John an email if you would like to see an arrangement of your

favorite swing/jazz tune!

Here's what a returning student had to say about his recent progress.

"After a hiatus of more than three years, I was finally able to resume monthly lessons with John Carlini. So psyched; it's almost too cool. Already overcome (overwhelmed?) with new information and ideas."

Start your Day with Exercise!

"Opus 7" is comprised of 12 Daily Warm-up Exercises in 12 keys. The studies are in various styles from jazz to bluegrass to classical and contain shifting techniques for all fingers.

I composed them in the spirit of my teacher, and Berklee mentor, Bill Leavitt. They are riff with "curve balls"!

I play them every day.
