Born into Music

Phyllis Carlini

My mom, Phyllis Mansfield Carlini, was a brilliant pianist and graduate of the Manhattan School of Music back in the early 40's. She was well underway to a successful career as a classical performer and was playing in NY orchestras as well as the lobby of the Pierre  Hotel, a very prestigious gig of the day. But that was cut short due to family responsibilities (me, my baby brother, her parents, etc). She never did record in a studio, but there is a lot of recording done on awful sounding cassette!

Here is an example of that...a Chopin Waltz. I was listening to her playing and practicing before I was born!
